Susine & Prugne! (That's Plums)

Saturday July 12, 2008
It's sometimes hard to keep track of what's coming into season during the summer. But when plums arrive they're impossible to miss: Bright (usually) orbs of all sorts of colors, from green through gold and onto inky blue, and ranging from ping-pong ball to tennis ball in size. and all sorts of flavors, from richly sweet to bracingly tart. I like them best simply set on the table, but they can be easily transformed into jams and marmalades that add brightness tot he winter months, are excellent in cakes and pies, and are also nice in savory dishes.
In short, plums are versatile, and as an added bonus they're healthy too!
