Uva: There are other uses for grapes besides wine

If you visit Italy now and drive out into the country, chances are you will encounter tractors pulling wagons piled high with baskets of grapes to a winery, where they will be pressed and transformed into the National Drink.

Grapes can be put to other uses, however. For example, schiacciata con l'uva, a traditional Tuscan harvest time treat. Or risotto with raisins. Or Venetian fried cream. Or slip them into an almond cake. Or even slip them into meatballs, Calabrian style.
