Heartwarming Soups to keep the fog out...

It has gotten a little warmer in Italy, though this isn't completely positive: The fog has rolled in with a vengence, blanketing much of the Pianura Padana and scattered other flatlands. When you can't see more than a few feet, driving is dangerous, and if you can you stay home; a hearty bowl of soup will make life much warmer. Some ideas:
  • Lentil and Pasta Soup: Esau sold his birthright for lentils, and one can almost understand the man when served a soup like this.
  • Lombard Soup: An extremely simple Tuscan bean soup, with beans, bean broth and toasted bread highlighted by fresh olive oil.
  • Friulian Minestrone, with Barley: A tasty winter soup that combines barley and pancetta with the other vegetables
  • Bread Soup and Ribollita: Two of the best uses imaginable for day-old bread, and one soup that makes winter worth getting excited over.
Buon Appetito!
