Breaded Cod Fillet Recipe - Merluzzo Impanato


Breaded Cod Fillets, or Merluzzo Impanato: These breaded cod filets are easy to do, and surprisingly tasty too.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Yield: 4 servings breaded cod fillets


  • 1 pound (500 g) cod fillets, either fresh or frozen
  • Flour, seasoned with salt and pepper to taste
  • An egg, beaten
  • Bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup butter or olive oil
  • Lemon wedges
  • Sprigs of parsley as a garnish


If the fillets are frozen, thaw them.

Flour the fillets, dredge them in the beaten egg, and then in the bread crumbs. Meanwhile, heat the oil or butter in a pan. When the oil is hot, fry the fillets until they are golden brown, turning them once (about 6 minutes in all). Garnish the fillets with the parsley, and serve them with lemon wedges.

A wine? White, and a Soave might be nice, as might a simple Trebbiano.
